Basic Yoga Information

Yoga is the world’s oldest system of personal development. Its benefits, for both body and mind, are being discovered by people of all ages and backgrounds. Yoga’s emphasis on deep breathing and slow movement stretches and tones muscles and nerves, loosens and flexes joints, strengthens the skeleton, improves circulation, and balances the hormonal system. Most importantly, the exercises relax both body and mind. They relieve tension and increase calm and clarity of mind.

Research has shown that with regular practice yoga can benefit such diverse ailments as: arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue, heart conditions, high blood pressure, varicose veins, back pain, pain in general, and more.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of Yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. This text was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Pattabhi Jois during the duration of his studies with Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927.
